Blackburn Rovers vs Manchester United
This is the game that can wrap up the championship of the season. United will just need 1 point to be declared the English Premier League Champions of 2010/2011 but Blackburn Rovers won't just roll over and let them win the championship that's for sure. Jason Roberts has declared his plans to postpone United's party in this interview here and it remains to be seen if he will be able to do just that this weekend. Pretty ambitious I must say, considering the last time these 2 sides met at Old Trafford the match ended with 8 goals and 7 of them came from United's corner but it will be interesting to see how Manchester United will perform at Ewood Park considering the fact that they have been guilty on being inconsistent themselves playing away from home.
Blackburn's recent form has been bad lately with just 1 win out of their last 6 and they were on a 11 game winless streak before finally getting a victory over Bolton just a fortnight ago and then a week later, they are back to draws again as they played out a 1-1 draw against West Ham at Upton Park.
Statistically speaking, Blackburn has played decently in terms of defense, conceding just 5 goals in 6 games and have managed to keep a clean sheet on 2 occasions with one of them coming against a heavily attacking Arsenal side. While their defense is solid, their attacking play has been below average with them scoring just 3 goals in their last 6, averaging half a goal per game in their last 6 and with this in mind, a goal from the home side in this game will be highly unlikely.
The champion's elect, Manchester United has been in fine form recently achieving 4 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss in their last 6. United were expected to drop more points after losing to Arsenal two weeks ago but they proved their critics wrong against Chelsea with a dominating performance against the champions that resulted in a 2-1 win at Old Trafford and now, they just need a SINGLE point from the last two matches of the season to wrap it up.
Manchester United's attacking plays has been decent lately, scoring 9 goals out of 6 games, averaging 1.5 goals per game but their defensive display has been outstanding this season. They have only conceded 3 goals in their last 6 games which averages at 0.5 goals per game and also managed to keep 2 clean sheets in the process. With a rock solid defense like this, another clean sheet is expected for the away side.
Based on the statistics above, I think this game will be a one sided affair as United will not stop knocking on Blackburn's door until they get that goal that will put the game to bed and even with Blackburn's decent defensive record, United's in-form forward duo, Rooney and Hernandez, will be expected to get plenty of chances and converting a few of them in the process. Blackburn's scoring rate has been terrible as of late and with United's rock solid defense, we shouldn't be expecting any goals from the home side and if there is any, it should be nothing more than consolation.
Final Score = Blackburn 0 - 3 Manchester United
Over/Under goals = Over 2.5 goals.
Asian Handicap = Manchester United win (-0.5, -1 odds).
